8:26 pm - Long time no see; plus, Bumperstickers!

Hello, all! Looks like no one has posted here in a while, so I thought I'd stop by.

Thanks (perhaps) to Facebook, I seem to be making more sales than I used to. Bumperstickers at The Lair of Cards (my all-paper Premium shop) are my best sellers at the moment. I'm expanding my musical themes to include some pop-cultural references (including political satire, such as the one pictured below; my "Voldemort/Palin 2012" item has been doing well also!). Anyway, I just thought I'd share the link to The Lair of Cards, and my newest satirical work:

5:28 pm - The quickest way to push up sales?

Long time lurker here, first time poster.  I have a cafepress store (www.cafepress.com/besserwiss) that I mostly use to sell pop culture related stuff, mostly quotes and stuff related to TV shows (Supernatural, Big Bang Theory and more).  Though sales dip in the summer I get most sales from the months before xmas.  I've been making about $200-300 a month (sept through dec) the last two years now, and I want to try to get the sales up even further this year.  500 a month is my goal for the next 3 months.

So my question is this.  What have you guys found is the best way to promote your designs and t shirts online?  Is it being active on forums(which I can't do much of cause of my work actually) or how do you do it?  Do you have any hints as to what might be the quickest way to boost my sales?  What's working for you?

12:29 pm - Question about how CP works

One of my designs on CP looked too dark, so I lightened it in Photoshop and then uploaded it again.  Then I placed an order and purchased a t-shirt with that design.  Right after that, I was shutting down Photoshop and I discovered that I never saved the lightened version of my picture which means I had uploaded the same, dark version of the picture!  I rushed to upload the lightened version and replace it on all the products that had the dark version.  I'm hoping that when they print up an order, they take the image that is on the store at the time of printing and not the version that was there when the order was placed.  Does anyone know how that works?

12:08 pm - CP + Other similar sites

Is it okay to have duplicate shops with the same designs on different sites in addition to CP, like Zazzle, Spreadshirt, and whatever other similar sites are out there?

I've only tried Spreadshirt in addition to Cafe Press because a free 6-month premium account came with my web hosting package. I like how CP works much better, but Spreadshirt does have a lot of cool items that CP doesn't have. The way I see it, the benefits of having shops on different sites are having extra variety of products and also making it more likely for people to see and buy your designs. Thoughts?

10:27 pm

Hi everyone.

I just started my first CafePress shop a week or so ago. One of my hobbies has been photography/digital photography, so I figured I'd start selling some of my work on CP and dA in the hopes of saving money for a new camera and other photo equipment. I'll be the first to admit that not everything here is prize-winning quality, but they are images I'm very pleased with. I tend to have fun picking out ways to take photos that aren't the boring "straight down the middle" variety, and often get some pretty features in as well, like flowers in the background. (Besides, how many places can you go and buy a T-shirt with Guitarfish on the front of it?0

Take a look! NatureBlossoms

9:33 am - Custom Poster

Hi.  I was hoping someone here could help me with this...

I'm trying to create a custom large poster (23 X 35 inches) using an image from my computer.  However, I've been trying to resize it, because the way it is now leaves huge white borders.  The problem is I that cafepress doesn't allow me to edit my image, and I can't seem to resize it the way I want using a photoshop type program (I think this is because I'm not really familiar with these types of programs).

The Image Workshop and FAQ cafepress offers does not seem to be of much help to me.  Can someone please instruct me on a step-by-step basis (remember I am clueless at this) how to make my image larger so that there's not as much white space on the poster?
Or even better yet, I would be sooooo grateful, if someone could create the poster for me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Here's the link to my shop (I'm not actually trying to sell anything, I just wanted a way for you all to see what I'm talking about): http://www.cafepress.com/lovepeaceandsam

And here's the link to the image I'm trying to use: http://www.flickr.com/photos/denee/3286889124/in/photostream/
(I clicked the "All Sizes" link above the image's left corner, and then I clicked the "Original (3508 x 2481)" size and downloaded it.

Again, thanks a lot!

2:34 pm - self-promo ;))

I try to make "Feminism is..." project more accessible to international audience. The project was developed by activist Tamara Zlobina and artist Elena Mirosedina in Ukraine. It contains 20 artistic pictures about different feminist's topics (our Ukrainian-language blog is feminism-is.livejournal.com and we are doing website in English now). By that moment we produced a book, but it's too complicated to send it abroad. That's why I decided to use cafepress.com possibilities.

This shop is dedicated to the picture number 1: "Feminism is... deciding when to give birth"

6:05 pm - The LairShops have Squidoo Lenses...!

I've just started writing Squidoo lenses for the LairShops, folks! This is yet Another thing for us to get Hooked on Online, I guess. I'd been hearing and reading a lot of references to Squidoo from various blogs and emails Relating to e-commerce, essentially recommending this as a Social Networking resource.

So, I've got my Squidoo Profile up now, along with four lenses so far, one for Each of our Cafepress Basic LairShops. This, in addition to our new Cafepress LairShop blog! Lenses are also a chance for me to offer an assortment of propaganda knowledge, experience and information-Based resources on Various topics, not necessarily Related to the LairShops. I still have to work on all that, once I have the time. There are loads of topics on which no one has Yet created any lenses (according to the search results I've gotten); so there are plenty of Potential niches Yet to invade. Trouble is, I'm not Sure how I feel about the prospect of being called a "Giant Squid" at some point in the future (LOL)...

Anyway, do pay a visit to the lenses at your Earliest convenience, and perhaps jump on over to one of the LairShops or the Home Lair while you're at it...

7:38 pm - A new Cafepress LairShop blog...!

LairCronies, a new PromoLair has just been Excavated! After thinking about it Awhile, we decided to start up a blog that promotes our Cafepress LairShops (in lieu of a CP newsletter), and have it Attached, more or less, to the Home Lair at Angelfire. The blog will promote the LairShops; now we have to get Going like gangbusters and promote the blog! It's called The LairShops Beckon.

In the process of Dredging out this PromoLair, we learned a thing or two about what they call "Advanced Customization" (that thing they don't really let you do with free LJs). We are learning how to tweak the Stylesheets, the code for Main page entries, the LairLinks sidebar, and such like. We just put up our first two posts in the past couple of days; now we have to alert the Entire planet to the existence of this thing; and by extension, the LairShops! Just click on the image Below, or the text link Above, to check it out...

7:03 pm - More new stuff?

Sometimes I really wish Cafepress would stop adding new products. XD I just went to check things and try and get templates I'm missing, and saw there are new sweatshirts and some cameras? So, now I have to add that stuff to all my new shops and decide if I want to go back and redo old stuff to add the new products.

Does anyone have any info about the cameras? I haven't been able to spot any good info on them yet, though it's probably staring me right in the face and I'm overlooking it.

3:58 am - researching US buying behavior

I'm from Germany and really like the idea of selling one's t-shirt (and other) designs through Cafepress and Zazzle. What always baffles me, though, are the prices, so I was hoping some of you might tell me a bit about your own, your customers', and particularly Americans' buying behavior.

The cheapest t-shirts at Cafepress are $14.99 (€11.22) as far as I know, the cheapest at Zazzle are $16.95. The prices go up to $24.99 for plain plus size t-shirts (Cafepress) and $31.95 (€23.91) for something fitted at Zazzle (I understand 10% of their standard price goes to the designer).

Personally, I would never pay €11 for a plain white t-shirt. I certainly wouldn't pay €23 for a t-shirt, even if it hugs my figure. So here are my questions:

1) Is it me? Or German!me? Are Americans just really fond of t-shirts and prices like that are normal in the US?

2) For a unique, original design, how much are people willing to pay and how much do they buy per month - particularly since there's the hassle of having to send a shirt back if it doesn't fit?
